You can hunt hogs only from January to August and combined with a whitetail deer hunt from September through December. Some of the best times to go wild hog hunting here in Oklahoma are from December through April or early May. The winter months really get them going to search for food when the cold sets in and the feeders really heat up. Each hunter is allowed one wild hog per sit, that is two hogs per day possible.
Northern Oklahoma is extremely diverse which allows each wild hog hunting stand placement to be unique in its setting. From rolling hills, oak trees throughout, brushy draws, creeks, drainages, and large open areas for longer shots and more area to view.
Your Wild Hog Hunt will take place out of ladder stands for both a sighting advantage and safety. Feeders dot the landscape to assist in getting the wild hogs in range. Remember, at Riverbend Trophy Whitetails we make sure to accommodate each person and cater to your level of hunting, so your wild hog hunt is exactly what you are looking for.
Your free-range hog hunting day will start out the morning with a light breakfast: something like danish, cereal, toast, juice, and coffee. Generally, we leave about 1 hour before sunrise and hog hunt until mid-morning and then back to the hunting lodge. Upon our return, we go to work taking care of any harvested hogs and you enjoy a full course breakfast.
Then after breakfast simply retire back to your room and catch a nap before our afternoon hog hunt or there does not need to be any down time as we can keep you busy all day. Big lunch early afternoon and we are ready to go afield again for the afternoon hog hunt. Most often you are out until just after sunset and back for a "loosen your belt" kind of dinner.
The Free-Range Wild Hog Hunting season here in Oklahoma runs all year but again the best times for temperature are December through April or May. Odds are it will be a little chilly here in the late months so bring warm clothes and dress in layers. It is best to contact us prior to your arrival and get current weather and future predictions so you can pack the appropriate gear for the temperatures and time of year you will be hunting. At Riverbend we also maintain UTV’s that are equipped with heat and A/C for your comfort travelling to and from your stand.
Our shooting range will be available to make sure your guns are sighted in when you arrive. Riverbend allows nearly all legal hog hunting weapons like Crossbow, Compound Bow, Muzzle loading Rifle, and Rifle hunts throughout the season. The best advice we can give you as a novice hog hunter is to bring the most accurate hard-hitting weapon you own. Large wild Trophy Boar Hogs over 150 pounds can have a shield that grows just under their shoulder and is made of a tough cartilage that can get as thick as 2” on both sides. You need to be sure you can harvest the largest of possible opportunities. Your rifle shots will average 50 to 75 yards and we can bait closer to get you within ethical bow range. We at Riverbend understand that each hunter preferred wild hog hunting weapon is different, so we want you to use whatever fulfills the challenge for you. Simply let us know what your weapon of choice is, and we will accommodate you to the best of our ability.

When Wild Hog Hunting on our Free-Range property we understand that not all shots are perfect, and we will always do our best to recover your game. It is the hog hunting guides choice of when to call a search quits and deem an animal lost. If you draw blood or hair after your shot, and we cannot find the wounded game we will have to consider that animal to be expired or going to expire and you will be responsible for full payment. This is a semi-guided hog hunt so if you shoot at a wild hog even though it ran off like nothing happened and you could swear it was a miss you must not shoot at a second hog until a guide determines it to be a miss meaning no blood or hair is found then and only then can you shoot at another hog. If you do shoot two hogs in one sit the largest of the two hogs will be weighed and charged at a rate of $3 per pound.
