The recommended big game exotic hunting gear you should be bringing is as follows:
Trophy axis deer hunting is a thrilling challenge due to their strong herd instincts. Axis deer generally travel in groups. This makes spot and stalk hunting more difficult, as multiple eyes are constantly on the lookout for danger. The axis is one of the most alert big game exotic animals in the world, so you will need to be extra cautious while in the stand.
Most of our guided axis deer hunts take place from an elevated stand strategically positioned throughout our exotic hunting property. While axis deer may appear in open fields, your best chances come from hunting along inner edges with natural cover, creek bottoms, and wooded terrain. This provides the perfect blend of concealment and opportunity for a successful axis deer hunt.
Taking the time to understand the antler cycle can help hunters plan the best time to go trophy axis deer hunting. Axis deer, also known as Chital or Spotted Deer, are highly sought after for their beauty, challenge, and rewarding harvest. These impressive animals can weigh up to 250 pounds and thrive in grasslands, dense post oak thickets, and lightly brushed areas. One unique trait of Axis deer is their ability to breed year-round, meaning hard-antlered bucks can be found in every season. This makes trophy axis deer hunts available throughout the year, offering hunters an excellent opportunity to pursue these prized game animals.
Axis Deer go into their hard-horned stage from early summer to early fall, typically between late April and August. During this period, their antlers reach full growth and harden before eventually shedding. For those interested in pursuing velvet bucks, the prime time is March through April, just before the axis deer rut begins. As rutting season approaches, bucks start scraping, which helps remove the soft velvet—a skin-like covering that dries and peels away—revealing their signature polished, bone-like antlers. Understanding this antler cycle can help hunters plan an excellent trophy axis deer hunt, whether targeting velvet bucks or hard-horned trophies.

Aoudad hunting in Oklahoma is a world class hunt opportunity for a stunning animal that is native to the mountains of Northern Africa. The aoudad sheep are a large-bodied, horned species that make for an impressive trophy. Known for their keen senses and wariness, these animals provide one of the most challenging exotic hunts available. Their distinctive horns curve outward, backward, and then inward, while their tan coats and long, beard-like hair on the throat and neck add to their striking appearance.
At Riverbend Whitetails of Oklahoma, we offer premier trophy aoudad hunts designed for serious exotic hunters. While aoudad hunting is open year-round, our prime season runs from December through March for optimal conditions. With cooler temperatures (30-40°F at night, 50-75°F during the day), this period offers a comfortable hunting experience.

Blackbuck antelope hunting in Oklahoma has surged in popularity due to the species' striking appearance and exciting hunting challenges. Blackbuck males, weighing between 50 to 70 pounds, are known for their unique coloration. A dominant male typically features a jet-black top half and a pure white underbelly, often referred to as the “Tuxedo” phase. These highly territorial animals engage in intense sparring matches, making it fascinating to observe them in the wild.
Blackbucks primarily inhabit low-lying grasslands, making the Northern Oklahoma Hill Country an ideal environment for them. Their exceptional vision and keen awareness make hunting them a challenge, requiring a strategic approach. While elevated blinds or stands are the most effective method, spot and stalk hunts can also be successful, especially when utilizing tree lines for cover along open grasslands.
The best time to go blackbuck antelope hunting is during Spring and early Summer, with peak rut activity occurring in June and July. However, blackbuck hunting is available year-round in Oklahoma. Many exotic hunters also choose to pair a blackbuck hunt with an axis deer rut hunt, as both species have overlapping mating seasons.
